Exploring Laos tourist itinerary 2 weeks | 15 days 14 nights

Start the first day of Laos itinerary 2 weeks, you will be welcomed to Luang Prabang by your guide.

Once the heart and soul of the ancient kingdom of Laos, Luang Prabang is now a designated World Heritage-listed site. The city is filled with ornate temples, French colonial architecture and has a truly magical feel about it.

After breakfast, package tour in Laos will visit major sites including the National Museum, the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun, the shrine of Wat Mai and Wat Xieng Thong. 
 

You will then climb up to the top of Phousi Mountain for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa, as well as see a beautiful sunset view of the city and the Mekong River. From there, you will go to explore the Night Market, where you can find lovely crafts and handmade textiles sold by local and hill tribe people from the surrounding area.

Early morning join/ watch local people for Tak Bat alms giving to local monks as part of the original old culture.

After breakfast, you will drive out of town 30 km to the beautiful Kuang Si Waterfall, where you can swim, relax and soft trek to the top of the fall.

 
On the way back, group of Laos itinerary 2 weeks have a short stop at a Black Hmong village, where hill tribe handicrafts are sold as souvenirs to passing visitors. Once back in town, you will have the rest of the day free to indulge in an afternoon tea or coffee at one of the many stylish cafes and bars as you people watch or plan some shopping.

An early morning after break fast we set off on a drive towards Luang Nam Tha, a land of rugged mountains, beautiful forest and rich river plain.

 
This mountainous region is also sharing the border with China and Myanmar. There are over twenty ethnic groups who are settled in Luang NamTha, making it one of the most ethnically diverse provinces in Laos.

Along the way we make stops, to visit a village of the Akha minority village. This ethnic group was originally in China but immigrated into Laos down centuries.

Laos travel itinerary 2 weeks arrives in Luang Nam Tha and stroll around to catch our first glimpse of this hill town.

Upon leaving Luang Nam Tha we set off on a short drive north towards Muang Sing.

We embark on a half walking day, using the local tracks and pass through the breathtaking mountain landscape to the seldom visited hamlets which are home of the Yao, Akkha and Lantern people. They are settled there longtime ago and still retain their traditional culture and habits.

The trekking is strenuous at times, with some steep uphill and downhill walking; however some physical preparation will enable you to fully enjoy this adventure, two weeks in Laos.

We spend the remainder of the day exploring some major sights of Muang Sing Town. They are the That Xieng Tung and the Muang Sing Exhibition, giving us an interesting view of the local history.

The morning market of Muang Sing also attracts numerous ethnic minorities. They converge from the surrounding mountainsides or valley to barter and trade their goods.

We have time strolling around this conglomeration before tour Laos in two weeks travel along the zigzag way towards Oudomxay and pass the many tranquil hamlets. They are linked to the road which is the main artery of trade between the northern region and the capital city.
 

The drive is difficult at times; however the verdant and rugged mountain scenery combined with the colorful local population makes for a memorable experience.

Along the way we can make stop at pleasure, to catch some wonderful shooting and visit the Akha, Lao Houei and Iko villages. They are almost settled in off road areas.

An early morning start to drive to Muang Khua 80 km and drop in Muang La to visit Pra Xach Kham Temple with its sacred Buddha image. This 400 year old statue legendary possesses many supernatural powers which are widely worshipped among local people and keep go on to Muangkhua a small trading town then we continues by boat cruise to Muong Ngoi 4-5 hrs by boat (Note: 2 Boats).
 

Muong Ngoi is one hour north of Nong Khiau. The village is small with narrow footpaths lined with coconut palms and a common site is fisher folk mending their nets creating a SouthSea ambience. A true Lao style of life is abundant here and time seems to stand still. Guest of Laos itinerary 2 weeks stops for lunch served with local food along the river bank.

After breakfast at the hotel, take a walk in the very early morning around Muang Ngoi. 

Then, take show boat back to Nong Khiew. This morning we continue our leisurely trip downstream on the Nam Ou River, enjoying the lush green forests and landscape.

Along the way Laos holiday packages stops to visit the mysterious caves of Pak Ou, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by devoted pilgrims.

 
We continue our trip down the river to the UNESCO World Heritage City of Luang Prabang. This former royal capital with its gleaming temple roofs, fading colonial architecture and stunning mountain backdrop retains a unique charm rarely found in modern Asia.

Arrive Luangprabang and transfer to Hotel.  Overnight in Luang Prabang.

We start early this morning, around 8am for the drive to Xieng Khuang, famous for the ‘Plain of Jars’. The road follows a twisty mountain route, and we make our first stop at Houi Hei, which offers great views of the surrounding mountains.
 

We then continue Laos itinerary 2 weeks to Ban Kiu Marknao 2, a Khmu village to explore, before arriving in Phou Khoun for lunch.

We continue on the road into Xieng Khuang province, reaching our highest altitude of the day 1500m above sea level, just after Phou Khoun.

We have time to make a stop at Ban Son Boom, a Hmong village.

Our final stops of the day are a reminder that this region played a major part during the Vietnam War – as we visit a hidden Buddha Cave, that served as an army hospital during the war.

We arrive at your hotel by early evening. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Xiengkhuang.

Breakfast at hotel, transfer out to visit Jar Site 1 and site 2 located on top of a hill offering great views of the surrounding countryside.

Then driving to the ancient town of Muang Khoun, the former provincial capital, where Laos vacation packages can explore the ruins of a number of ancient pagodas in the Lanna style and Wat Phiawat, a ruined temple containing a huge sitting Buddha and Long drive to Vang Vieng and visit local minorities villages along the way.
 

Free and easy for a superb view of limestone mountain and Namsong.

Drive to Vientiane, stopping at Tamjang Cave and Vangsang archeology site which is over a thousand years old.  On arrival Vientiane capital, transfer to hotel for check in.

Begin city tour of Vientiane Capital of 2 weeks in Laos to include: a visit to Wat Sisaket the oldest standing temple in Vientiane and houses many important documents and treasures, including 6840 Buddha’s images, Hor Prakeo housed the Emerald Buddha (Prakeo) today is a museum of the most extensive collections of Buddhist artifacts in the country, photo stop or climb to the top for a panoramic view of the city at Patuxay (Victory Gate) the monument was modeled after Arc de Triumph in Paris, yet retains its Laotian identity with traditional decorative motifs, That Luang (The Great Sacred Stupa) is said to contain relics of the Lord Buddha himself and is the country’s most cherished religious monument.

Visitors Laos itinerary 2 weeks will take an early morning flight to Pakse, where you will be met and driven to Saravanh province via Tateng. The bubbling water and lush vegetation around Tad Fane Waterfall make for a spectacular view. 
 

You will make a stop en route to observe the traditional local tea and coffee making activity and learn about life in the Boloven Plateau area. The cultivation of rich coffee, tea, cardamom, bananas, and other crops are common, and visitors are encouraged to venture off the beaten path and explore some of the lesser-known areas of the region. 

Upon arrival at Tad Lo Waterfall, you will visit Alak, Nge and Katu villages.

The views of stumbling water and lush vegetation around the waterfalls are nothing short of spectacular. We leave this lovely destination and drive back to Pakse and enjoy a leisurely trip to the former royal capital of Champasak, our base for exploring the ruins of Wat Phu - one of Southeast Asia's most dramatically situated temples.

We have time to explore these intriguing Khmer ruins, which are perched at the base of Mount Phu Kao. Wat Phu is one of the Lao World Heritage sites recognized by UNESCO in 2001, this wonderful archeological site of Khmer civilization dates back to the 9th century, predating the famous Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
 

Two weeks in Laos continue our journey by motorboat to Don Khong, the largest island in the South Mekong river region known as the 4000 islands, one of the most scenic areas in Laos.

Heading out of town we embark on a long tail boat for venturing into the widest reach of the Mekong River, where during the dry season the waters recede and leave behind thousands of islets, giving this area a lovely name "Si Phan Done”.

Laos itinerary 2 weeks explores the local peaceful villages of Ban Khone, where you will see an array of relics from the French colonial era and retrace the old colonial past, including old French colonial buildings and the remnants of the first Lao railway with it’s locomotive.

We continue discover the 4000 islands area by boat at our leisure to visit the marvelous Liphi waterfall, also called the "Corridor of the Devil" one of the most beautiful waterfalls marking the end of Lao border to Cambodia.

 
If we are lucky, we may even see the rare freshwater Irrawaddy Mekong dolphin at Ban Hang Khone.

Overnight in Don Khong Island.

After breakfast, you will transfer to Pakse Airport for your departing flight.
